Glee + Co
Mascot
Client Project
Glee + Co, an LA based clothing brand, asked if I could make a mascot for them! I worked at this clothing store for a little more than a year and was given a cool opportunity to create something they can use for promotional events.

Programs used

Conceptualize
Roughdrafts & Sketches
The first step in creating the mascot was to figure out what needs had to be met with the client. We took the time to create a moodboard and brainstorm ideas.
Key takeaways:
-
Animal Mascot
-
Not too extremely cute
-
Somewhat professional
-
Relate to clothing

Form & Font
Styleframe
After creating a cleaner draft, we were able to talk about the form of the chicken in a clearer picture. There was also a discussion on how to incorporate a business casual, playful, and legible font.
Key takeaways:
-
Beak was too angled
-
Font Legibility
-
Good concept direction

3D Model
Difficult First
I went with creating the 3D mascot first because it would be the most time consuming. It also serves as a great reference to the 2D versions later on. This was agreed to be mainly used as promotional assets online since it's not ideal for embroidery or prints.

-
Branding
Incorporate the colors and textures of the clothes from their store
-
Needs
Client mentions the shape and idea fits their parameters in what they're looking for in a mascot

-
Realism
The reflection of the yellow onto the corduroy isn't right

-
Branding
To match their loungewear apparels, incorporating a warmer lighting would be better
-
Details
The yellow on the wings are a bit too washed out

-
Details
The decision was to get rid of the stray strands of fur due to difficulties in file size and hardware when sending or running the file.

-
Branding
The decision was to cut out the slogan to keep the design more professional and clean
-
Details
Closing the gap in the G and cleaning up some of the curves in the script would increase legibility

2D Illustrations
Vectorize
After completing the 3D version, it was easy to translate it into a 2D Vector. I added a stroke around the model to make it look better for stickers and bring contrast to the design in general. The vector model would be more useful for prints and stickers.

Monochrome
Chicken Head
At this point I started calling the mascot "Gleecken". The last design was the monochromatic logo design. This is probably the most versatile in terms of it's uses.

Use Cases
Gleecken Vinyls
I was gifted vinyl stickers of my design a few weeks after completing. It was a really cool and fun project to work on. It's even cooler to see your designs being used. Hoping to see future use cases of the Gleecken!
